Laney is a Puggle mix with an activity level of 2 on a scale of 1 to 10. She gets along well with cats, dogs and children and is house trained provided she has access to the outdoors.
She is crate trained and happily sleeps in hers overnight (approx 9 pm - 7 am). She also goes in the crate for short stretches while we are out (up to a few hours).
Laney loves going on walks and is able to keep up with a typical family for several miles without problem. She is also fine if she doesn't get regular walks and is happy just being part of the family.
One of Laney's favorite activities is snuggling up next to you, snoring gently on a nice long nap. She also enjoys dressing up and gets excited when a sweater is produced for her to try on.
Laney's foster family take her everywhere they go and she enjoys each excursion. She is the perfect cash-and-carry size although she is not considered super small either.
Laney's foster parent states:
"Laney is a senior, but I've never seen that slow her down. She's delighted to get out for walks. She easily jumps into our car and is happy to go anywhere we go. She drives the kids to school and joins us anywhere dogs can go!"
We always ask our foster parents to tell us about things the dog avoids or doesn't like, but so far, they've come up with nothing in this category for Laney.
Laney is waiting patiently for her permanent family to arrive, could it be you? If you think you could be a match for Laney, please click the link below and fill out an application to meet her.

Gigi's foster family reports that she is house trained and very food motivated. Her fosters are working to help crate train Gigi and report that she is doing well and will even eat in her crate!
Gigi is energetic but calms nicely and loves to snuggle up next to her canine and human foster family. Gigi's foster parents say that she is your typical wiggly boxer who is friendly, cuddly and overall a joy to have around!

A dog advocate discovered Boba roaming free in an agricultural area in Bakersfield and has been looking after her while locating a full time foster for her. Boba has now been successfully placed with a foster parent and is available for adoption.
Boba is incredibly sweet, social with people, and loves to follow her chosen person around to just be by their side. At this point she is still settling in and isn't yet interested in toys preferring to keep close tabs on her people by lying near/on them instead. She is a treat motivated dog who walks well on leash and enjoys exploring the world around her.
She is still new to us and we are learning more about her each day. If you think you might be a good candidate for adopting Boba, please click the link below and submit your application today, she'd love to hear from you.

Carmela came to us frightened of most things with her crate being the only place she felt safe. With help, she has gone from spending most of the time in her crate to confidently exploring her environment. On a scale of 1 to 10, Carmela's energy level is 4.
She is house broken and will bark at the door to let you know she needs to go out. She is hard of hearing, but has a basic understanding of hand gestures suggesting she “come” or “go in this direction.” She has warmed up to both dogs and humans. Her foster mother describes her as being sweet and a little love.
Carmela has a mischievous streak and enjoys making her foster mom chase after her, on occasion.
Carmela allows her foster mother to pet and love on her and will allow those she does not know to pet her. When she is fearful she can become mouthy. Carmela walks well on a leash.
She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home and enjoys frisky playtime with them when possible. She also likes cuddling up with them too.
Carmela is looking for a calm, patient adopter who will spend time with her and continue to help her build her confidence. If you feel you could be a good match for Carmela, please click the link below and fill out an application to come meet her.

Captain is a corgi mix who walks well on a leash, understands 'sit', 'down' and 'go to bed'. He is crate trained and does well in it for 3 to 4 hours at a time. He also likes to use it as his den when he wants to be by himself. On a scale of 1 to 10, Captain's energy level is 5.
Captain was shy in the beginning, but with a little patience and time has warmed up to his foster family and their dog very well. He likes attention from his people and once he has built trust, will roll onto his side and invite belly petting. He loves to be next to his foster sister whom he watches closely and learns from.
He loves to go on walks where he enjoys watching bunnies run past. He also seems to enjoy rolling on the rocks and bushes along the way.
Captain is food motivated and loves pretty much all types of food and treats.
If you think you might be a good match for Captain, please click the link below and fill out an application to come meet him. He's ready to make your acquaintance!

Candy is a happy, young dog who likes being by your side and going wherever you do. She gets along with other dogs and enjoys her chew toys. She is crate trained and will wait patiently to be let out when her foster family returns home. She will use it as her den and spontaneously take naps in it throughout the day. On a scale of 1 to 10, Candy's energy level is 6.
Candy knows how to play fetch, shake hands (if there is something she really wants) and runs well on leash. She becomes very excited when playing with her foster family, often gets the "zoomies", but is much calmer once she lets it out of her system.
Candy's foster parent states:
"She likes to collect things and takes them to her crate; it could be a toy or shoe, if left out. She won't destroy them, just collects them. So if something goes missing, it's most likely in her crate!"
Candy is very young and still has some puppy behaviors. For example, she is working on not being "nippy" when getting excited. She is highly food motivated so modifying behaviors like this is easy.
She also loves taking naps with her people and is known to give gentle kisses to those she particularly cares about. She is an easygoing dog who likes meeting new people and going places with her humans.
Candy is currently reviewing applications for her permanent family and would love to meet you if you think you might be right for her. If so, please click the link below and fill out an application to come meet her soon.

Bailey just arrived at LCAL and we are still getting to know her, but so far she made a great impression! She came in selectively shy, loving some humans while being nervous around other people. With a little time, she will love you too! She warms up quickly, once you show her you're safe. She is great with other dogs, but needs some work on sharing. She is very funny and dramatic once she comes out of her shell!

Wesley is a beautiful 11 month old Doberman Pinscher (mix) with lovely markings and a silky smooth coat. For such a young boy, he is remarkably well behaved and has proven to be quite trainable too.
He connects well with his humans and seems like a stereotypical 'Velcro' Doberman Pinscher, sticking by your side wherever you go.
Wesley has had a number of interactions with other dogs, all of which have gone well and ended with everyone playing together nicely. He has also been around numerous young children and babies to whom he responds appropriately.
We are working with him on his loose-leash walking ability which is progressing rapidly since he has a strong desire to please and is food motivated. He is slightly timid and needs reassurance to do things like hop up into the car or go into his crate at bedtime, but each day these things are easier for him (Note: after two days in foster, he now hops in the car without issue).
He likes chew-toys and is easily redirected to these objects when intercepted with shoes, parts of our holiday decorations or other contraband. True to his breed, Wesley is a working dog and will blossom in an active home environment where his energy is properly channeled and his intelligence challenged.
Basically, Wesley is an extremely bright yet behaviorally typical 11 month old puppy who, with continued, proper guidance from his humans, will develop into an awesome companion for the right family.
If you think you could be that family, please click the link below and fill out an application to come introduce yourself to this wonderful canine friend - he's waiting to meet you!

Buddy has lots of puppy energy! He's fun, playful and loves when his humans toss his toys around. Buddy is very sweet, affectionate and overall a great dog. He's very social and enjoys playing with other dogs. He's got the making of a wonderful family dog with his patience and playfulness! Buddy may be part horse however, with his high stepping trot and graceful gallop.
Buddy would make an awesome family dog or bachelor dog, he would love nothing more to be apart of an active family!

She is incredibly sweet and gives the absolute best hugs! As with all of our dogs, we will update her profile every time we learn something new. What a very sweet girl phoebe is. She's only just arrived so we are still learning about her, but so far she is such a doll! She is great just hanging out next to her people, though she isn't a fan of them leaving and will squeak to let you know you forgot her. She just needs to learn we're not leaving her for real! Loves pets and treats!

Cabana and eight of his litter mates were flown to LCAL by a ‘rescue angel’ who saved them from a dog rescue in the Bahamas.
Cabana has been living with his foster parents since his arrival in San Diego and loves life. Since being with LCAL, he has grown into a happy, warm and fun-loving fellow who loves nothing more than bubbles, belly rubs and his turn jumping on the trampoline with the kids.
His past life in the Bahamas is evident in his laid back attitude toward life, at least until he spots someone heading to the kitchen, in which case he will be sure to zoom in first, just in case something tasty might be in store for him. He's still a young, growing boy.
He is fully house (potty) trained, loves kids, enjoys quality hugs and kisses and has learned to sit and shake hands. Cabana is through the chewing stage now and enjoys companionship and playtime with the other dogs in his household.
Cabana is described by his foster parents as a good boy, a sweet, adolescent puppy always available for attention. He is adventurous and has the puppy curiosity that leads him either to his next adventure or just laying on the couch next to you.
Cabana is unconcerned about loud noises such as the vacuum. He is treat motivated and likes his crate at night. He is a good friend and a very smart, quick-learning, easy to train fellow. He's a jewel waiting for the right family to come see him.

A very friendly guy! Hershey's a peach! Loves playing fetch, tug, and getting the zoomies. He is just the right level of outgoing to make himself at home in record time! Hershey has a BLAST roughhousing with dogs his own size! He's a water hound who is always ready for a hose! He is also a miraculous singer, though it doesn't seem his foster parents get to experience his full vocal range. What a loveable boy!

Annie is a sweet, wiggly, cuddly and gentle girl who seems to love all people wanting to spend as much time with them as she can.
She has done well in a foster home, sharing it with another dog and a cat which has worked out without any problems.
She has shown signs of separation anxiety which her foster family is helping her to overcome. Annie will need a patient home to help her get settled, feel safe, and slowly build the confidence in her new home.
Currently Annie is doing well in her efforts to become crate trained and in learning that her crate is a safe quiet refuge and not something to be afraid of.
Annie is fully house trained, gets along well with dogs and cats and would thrive in an environment where her people are normally at home (retired, work from home, etc).
Her foster family has said Annie is basically the perfect dog and just so sweet!

LCAL transferred Rory after she was hit by a car and brought to her local shelter. Upon intake at LCAL, Rory was immediately brought to the ER, where she received surgery on her front leg. She is currently in a foster and recovering well!
Here is a note from her foster!
Rory is 8+ weeks from surgery on her front right leg. She is the most patient of patients! She finally has her cast and all bandages off and her final wound is healing. She has a kind nature, is super curious but very strong and will do great with some training. She has really begun to show a snuggly side, she loves having her face rubbed with a towel and wants to be wherever her human is. She is super affectionate, gets along great with her foster brother who is 2 and about 40 lbs smaller than she is. She likes to tease him by stealing his toys and stockpiling them in her crate.
Speaking of crates she is completely crate trained and has even started going in on her own. She sleeps for 10-12 hours per night but will wake you up if she needs to relieve herself in the middle of the night.
Because of her size and her leg injury she might do best in a home without stairs. She is getting stronger every day and is a couldn't waiting to no longer need her cone.
She is an incredible girl who loves all humans and just wants attention and affection!
|
|
There is not enough positive things we can say about Miss Katy! This girl is incredibly affectionate and adores her people! She can be shy and timid at first, but allow her to approach and come out of her shell on her own terms and it is oh so worth it! Katy just arrived at LCAL, we look forward to updating her profile as we learn more about her! Did we mention she's a fantastic hugger?

Rex is a young Doberman with lots of energy to burn! He loves his playtime and enjoys all the toys he can find! He is very affectionate and seeks attention from the people around him. Our team looks forward to learning all that we can about him and updating you soon

Meet Dozer! Dozer is a sweet Boxer boy that came to LCAL after being found under a Bulldozer by a local family. The family that found him reported that he was really sweet in their home. They also reported he did well with their small dog. In his intake exam, Dozer was found to have a heart murmur. Before adoption he will receive an echocardiogram so we have more information about his long term health needs. We will keep everyone updated on Dozer as we get to know him better.

Tigger is a lovely active dog who lived most of her life in a loving home with a couple who were devoted to her care. Unfortunately due to health issues they were unable to care for her, so she came to us and went right into a foster home.
Her foster siblings are both large and small, but no matter the size, she likes to cuddle up and snuggle in the same bed with all of them (she is very dog friendly). She also loves doing the same with her people whom she is eager to please.
She is crate trained and satisfied with sleeping in one but she absolutely loves to cuddle and will do it all day long if given the chance!
Tigger is also surprisingly active for a senior—her foster mom recently took her on a long hike and she did not want to sit in the wagon they brought for her, she wanted to keep on walking!
Tigger has a history of pancreatitis which is totally under control with Hill’s prescription I/D food and treats. She cannot eat anything else, but she loves her food and treats! Her foster mom freezes balls of the canned food as treats and she loves it. She’s very easy to please and happy as long as she’s with her family.
Her foster families have commented that she is just the best girl and so easy!
Please note: Tigger needs to be in a home committed to supporting her dietary needs to make sure her pancreatitis stays well controlled.

Deaf, young Boxer with all the snuggles to give! He is very affectionate and playful once he gets comfortable. He's only just arrived to our rescue but he has proven to be a perfect gentleman!
|
|
Ruger is an absolute sweetheart with an endless amount of love and affection to give. He's a gentle boy who loves nothing more than to be relaxing right next to his people and enjoying the good life he always deserved. Ruger came to LCAL emaciated and during this time our team is working hard to safely help this boy get to a healthy weight. Stay tuned for updates as we learn more about this handsome guy
|
|
As sweet as pie! Stella just arrived to our rescue so we are still learning all that we can on this cute girl and will come back for updates once we know more. For now, what we can say is Stella is a shy girl, but don't let that stop you from meeting her! Although she will require slow and calm introductions, once she warms up to you it's all tail wags and kisses from there!
At this time we are not recommending high traffic/loud homes. Stella would thrive from a handler who is patient and can allow Stella to blossom on her own terms.
|
|
Juliet has just arrived and she's taken our hearts! Very sweet girl. Affectionate but shy, she needs a little time to warm up. We'll update as we learn more about Juliet!
|
|
What a Rae of sunshine. Rae is a high energy Husky mix that would thrive in an active household with room to run! She loves playing fetch and could always go for a lounge in the pool. She's a water dog for sure! She is a smart girl that could benefit from consistent enrichment. She's doing well in her foster home, but is definitely a puppy!
|
|
What a gorgeous boy! He's a very friendly guy with a little shyness at first. He trusts easily and loves to just hang out. Still getting to know Romeo so we will update soon!
|
|
Bert is a shy but such a sweet boy! He is pretty nervous and gains confidence from other dogs, and right now that's his BFF Ernie! Bert is timid but loves being close to humans. He would do wonderful in a home with patient and gentle humans who might even have a little dog to be his buddy! He has been so sweet ever since arriving and has been getting braver by the day! He'd make an adorable addition to your household!
|
|
Ernie is a spunky little guy who isn't afraid to come over and say hi! He arrived at LCAL with his buddy Bert whom he currently shares a kennel with very well. However, Bert is a bit of an attention hog preferring all petting is focused on him.
He does well with Bert and would likely be great with another similar dog at home. He loves to just hang out and have affection loaded on him.

Coconut and eight of his litter mates were flown to LCAL by a ‘rescue angel’ who saved them from a dog rescue in the Bahamas. He and his brother Cabana are in foster care together and have been growing steadily since May/2022 and are ready for adoption!
Coconut is quiet and shy at first but is a sweet, easy going puppy who lives with many dogs in his foster home and gets along with everyone there. Coconut has really come out of his shell in his foster home and loves getting attention from his humans and fur siblings alike.
He will follow you around like a shadow at all times. He likes to give hugs but does not cuddle for long periods. He likes to jump on the trampoline and doesn't mind being in the pool. He likes to give kisses to the other dogs. He is a more mellow puppy energy-wise when in the home. He does not like the vaccuum one bit!
He got a little overwhelmed at his first event and was barking quite a bit, but with training and exposure could do great in busy places with time.
He is treat motivated and likes his crate at night. He is well potty trained and very smart.
Coconut would do well in pretty much any environment due to his easy going personality.

|
What a polite lady Diamond is! She is a gentle soul who loves getting pets and just being around people.
She is a senior who will do what you ask after a couple good belly rubs.
Wonderful to walk, and a quiet companion in the right home. Diamond is the dog that will love and snuggle on you for as long as you can stand it! She is looking for a home to spend the rest of her days being loved.
|
|
Here is one impressive lady. Salem is totally blind, and we think she has been for a very long time. She is a resourceful dog and can find her way around very well. She was a stray for months and survived on her own until she was rescued.
Since being in foster care and learning her way around her environment, she has totally blossomed. Her foster mom has taught her many commands to help her navigate her environment and she is quite confident now. Over time, Salem learned to identify her foster-sibling and gets along with him exceptionally well.
Salem likes going on outings to the park and can be comfortable in most environments when she has her trusted family guiding her.
Due to being blind, she will need slow introductions to family members, furry family members and her new environment. Once she settles in, she will be easy going, loving and the sweetest girl.

Georgie is a two year old Pitbull Terrier who is incredibly gentle, sweet, loving, playful, energetic and curious. He was dog tested here at LCAL with Deeker (who is also one of our available dogs) and did well during the walk.
As with any young dog, Georgie loves to chew so we provide him with appropriate toys for this drive. He is high energy but is pretty good at keeping himself entertained if needs be. He likes to lick your face, cuddle and be close, and also loves his naps. Georgie is a great companion dog as he wants to go wherever you’re going and be by your side as much as possible and is happy watching the scenery go by during car rides.
Georgie seems to be fully potty trained. He is well behaved in his crate, no struggle to go inside and no whining or barking while inside for the night. He is excited and friendly with other people who greet him during his walks. He knows ‘sit’ and has good recall when he’s focused. He is very motivated by food, eats well, takes his pills like a champ (with a healthy coating of peanut butter on them), sleeps through the night, and get this: he likes CELERY, of all things!

|
Scuba and eight of her litter mates were flown to LCAL by a ‘rescue angel’ who saved them from a dog rescue in the Bahamas. She and her sister Snorkel are in foster care together and have been growing steadily since May/2022 and are ready for adoption!
Scuba is working on house training, leash work and chewing tendencies as with all puppies. She does well following her people around the house but likes to take her time investigating new things. She is the sweetest girl, loves meeting new people and is dog friendly and loves playing with them.
Scuba does very well in the crate and frequently hangs out in there on her own accord to snooze or chew on a bone or her Kong, which she loves. She is crate trained and sleeps there all night, never making a sound or having accidents. Her foster parents typically let her out once a night so she does not go longer than 4 hours without a potty break. She is not very vocal. She eats very well and is food motivated.
Scuba is developing into a confident and sweet girl who would do well in most environments and households.

Snorkel and eight of her litter mates were flown to LCAL by a ‘rescue angel’ who saved them from a dog rescue in the Bahamas. She and her sister Scuba are in foster care together and have been growing steadily since May/2022 and are ready for adoption!
What a fun puppy Snorkel is! She is doing well in foster-care, playing with her sister, sharing toys, not wanting to share cuddles - and is a joy to be around.
She is very shy and skittish at first, especially around loud noises and big cars, but once she feels secure she is a whole new puppy, sassy to no end. Playtime is so fun with her, as with every new toy is a new adventure.
Snorkel is very cuddly and affectionate once you show her she’s safe with you. She is a little chatterbox if you don't give her her treats fast enough and will dance around to get your attention. Any home would be lucky to have this potcake pup.

Darcy is an adorable, cuddly, wiggly boxer-mix with a loving, sweet disposition. She’ll melt your heart immediately!
Brought to LCAL from the County Department of Animal Services, Darcy is anxious for a permanent home. The shelter said she was a true gem and a staff and volunteer favorite. Darcy hasn’t shown any signs of anxiety and loves humans and lounging around with them. She also seems to do well with other dogs.
Darcy walks well and doesn’t pull on leash and doesn’t demonstrate reactivity to humans or other dogs and is great about keeping all four paws on the ground. She has been known to leap into bushes to do some exploring though.
Darcy’s foster parents recently had a new baby boy and Darcy clearly loves him and is very good with him. This adorable, sweet dog will be your instant BFF!

Batman came to LCAL with a fracture of the left front leg for which we immediately sought an orthopedic surgeon. Unfortunately, the fracture had already begun to heal on its own and the surgery to repair it was not an option. Instead he underwent four weeks of activity restriction with weekly rechecks/bandage changes at the vet hospital.
He has since completed his rehabilitation and lives on a large property without any activity restrictions. Batman’s foster family has another Malinois and a Boston Terrier whom he gets along with very well, but his prey drive kicks in when he spots the resident chickens, so we would not recommend him for a home with cats.
Batman is a very sweet boy who loves attention. He likes to follow his people and his foster siblings around the house and does not enjoy being alone. He will need someone to go slow with him in leaving him alone and allowing him to get used to his new, safe home.
Consistent with the Malinois breed, Batman is smart and picks up quickly when being taught a new skill. He will benefit from a home interested in working with a dog to engage their mind as well as exercise their body. Making him work through using his brain as well as his body will help him develop into an amazing companion.
Batman is thriving in his foster home, gaining confidence each day. His fosters have diligently worked with him on crate training, exposure to different noises (like the vacuum) and car rides. He and his foster family are currently working with a professional trainer to address a higher level of training which he will continue benefiting from in his new home.

Cody was a stray who showed up on a farm outside of Bakersfield. After attempts to locate his owner failed, a local rescue partner reached out to LCAL to help.
Cody is a smart, playful, cuddly, active and loyal guy who worked hard with our staff on campus to learn many commands and obedience and is so eager to please that he now obeys these commands, even in the presence of distractions
He currently lives in a foster home with 2 other dogs and LOVES having fur siblings to play with. Cody has shown a little too much interest in cats, so we do not recommend a home with cats.
He has a very large yard and loves to chase the ball and run around with his fur siblings. Cody enjoys car rides, outings to wineries/breweries and getting out and about with his humans
We believe Cody would do best in a home with owners who were able to exercise him each day (yard or walks/hikes/runs) and who were able to be leaders in the home so that Cody did not feel the need to take charge and could just focus on being his happy, easy going self.

|
Sakari is a very sweet and shy girl who loves other dogs. She is an independent lady who also likes being close to her people, but not too close.
Sakari has come to life and really gained confidence in her foster home. Although somewhat reserved, she is much more confident in new settings now that she has her foster family to support her - for example, she enjoyed an excursion to the groomer to get pretty.
She is an easy going companion that does not require much but would do best in a low traffic home with a family that loves her. A calm, confident dog-sibling would be a bonus.
She walks perfectly on a leash, and is currently in foster care with a cat whom she gets along with as well.

|
Just like his name, Angel is quite an Angel. He is a sweet and cuddly boy who likes to be picked up and is content hanging out in someone’s arms. Angel does well on walks, but prefers to keep them short. So far, he has interacted well with other dogs at LCAL and loves interacting with all the volunteers. Angel has a few medical issues that will need to be assessed and treated at LCAL. Once we know more about these needs and the plan to address them, we will keep you updated. Until then, we will all enjoy love from this sweet boy while he waits on his forever home.

Here is Howie! He arrived very recently and luckily got put in a foster home very quickly! He has neurological damage from being hit by a car, but he tries not to show it. Here is an update on how he does in a home!
"Howie is a gentle giant. He is incredibly sweet and very calm. While he is still getting comfortable with our family and in our home, we have seen him go from pacing, panting and door dashing the first day, to primarily lounging as a beautiful fur rug in the middle of any room we're in. He is not vocal that we have noticed, doesn't jump up on people or counters. He knows sit and "nice" when taking a treat. He likes to chew on bones and chase balls or squeaker toys. I think he is cautious with his movements not having full confidence in his back legs, but we have not noticed his legs giving out. Occasionally he will stand with his back legs crossed, but we are quick to correct this. He can go up and down carpeted stairs without a problem, but takes them slow. He eats well, does well in the crate (knows 'crate up'), doesn't mark and is completely housetrained. He is unsure of going outside at night - I'm not sure if it's the darkness of certain noises that make him leery. He needs leash work, moderate pulling during walks. On one walk (in the dark) he did bark at someone walking on the other side of the road, but stopped with a verbal correction. He didn't seem bothered after that. He's a wonderful dog from what we've observed and would be a perfect fit to any family!"
|
|
Freckles has been the biggest sweetheart since being transferred to our Rescue! He was very nervous at fist, and wanted to be cuddled at all times! He loves playing tag and frolicking wherever he's allowed. He is sweet as pie, has a gorgeous smile, and a wonderful freckled coat. He would do well in a home with a yard that he can run around in. He is a little nervous when first meeting other dogs, but once they show him they are safe, he's ready to play. He likes toys, and LOVES treats. He has such a wonderful personality. He is so loving, but won't smother you about it! Freckles is looking for his forever home and forever family.

|
Lupo is a very smart, sweet and vocal girl. She can be a little shy at first, but once she warms up to you, she wants all the attention she can get! She’s cautious but curious when it comes to new things and new environments. Lupo does well with other dogs and would benefit from having another high energy and playful dog around. Lupo’s ideal home would be with an active family who could take her out on long walks, hikes and adventures! A home where after a long and active day she can come back and relax with her people as she chews on a nylon dog bone.
|
|
Rosie is such a sweet, loving girl! She loves to give kisses and will even give hugs. She knows some basic commands and enjoys showing off how she can give a paw to others. She can walk well on a leash without pulling, but will need some continued loose leash training. She has demonstrated that she can do well with other dogs of all sizes. Rosie will be entering a foster home where we can get to know her better in a home environment. We will keep you updated as we get to know her sweetness more.

Piper is just so stinkin’ cute, a great size and has a very mellow temperament.
Piper is a friendly dog who was well loved in her former home of the last 5.5 years, but when she experienced a minor injury to her leg last fall she became less tolerant of the children in the home. Piper has recovered fully from her injury but we are recommending that her next home be with children who are over the age of 12 so they can respect her body sensitivity.
Piper tends to be a bit weary of strangers but once she warms up you couldn’t find a sweeter, more snuggly, happy pup! If you are looking for a companion dog that doesn’t require a ton of exercise each day, Piper is your girl! She walks well on leash, knows basic commands and is very treat motivated. Piper can be a bit stubborn when she doesn’t want to do something or is fearful but just needs a patient friend to help her move along. Piper has shown incontinence issues in the past, but since starting on Proin, a medication to treat this, we are seeing great results.
If you are looking for the sweetest, Netflix and chill companion then you have found your match. Piper does well with other dogs but also doesn’t need to romp all day in order to be happy. I’m telling you, once you meet her you won’t be able to resist her cuteness.

Meet sweet Bane! Bane is a friendly, young, handsome boy who came to LCAL from Animal Friends of the Valley where he was an owner-surrender because his family could no longer care for him. Bane’s former family stated that he is very active, good with kids, and great with other dogs. His dog-to-dog assessment at the shelter was a bit inconsistent with the family’s report so we will continue to assess his dog-to-dog sociability. Bane is reportedly not a fan of cats nor squirrels and has a strong prey instinct towards both. He reportedly chews and digs a little but is crate-trained. He is very food motivated and has already shown himself to be a quick learner for some basic foundational skills. Our volunteer dog walkers say that Bane is a great jogging buddy, playful, energetic, very smart, and knows how to sit. Morning walks are the highlight of his day! We will keep you updated as we learn more about this handsome boy!

For anyone who loves a happy, wiggly Pitty puppy, Marvel is the guy for you! He is a sweet boy who loves everyone he meets. He would love to make anyone’s lap his resting spot. He loves attention from all the volunteers. He will quickly give anyone his belly for some good belly scratches. He is good on a leash and knows some commands. With his love for attention he has demonstrated that he will be easy to train.
Marvel came to LCAL because he was showing some sensitivity and limping on his right rear leg. He will receive a full medical assessment so that we can learn more and provide him with whatever he needs. We will keep you updated on what we learn and the treatment he will receive from LCAL.

If scruffy and adorable is your favorite type of dog, you will love Barney! When put in new situations and meeting new people, Barney is shy and apprehensive, but once he warms up, he loves cuddles and attention. He’ll even nudge you if you stop petting him! Barney is a bit anxious around groups of strangers and sensitive to loud noises, so he would do best in a calm, quiet home that only has children over the age of 13.
Barney will need some work on his house training and leash work, but once in a calm, steady environment he should make great progress.
Like most rescues, this precious guy will need humans who are patient and willing to help him learn what it takes to be an extra super great dog.

Calling all boxer fans! Lady is 8 years old, warms up to people quickly and is calm and sweet.
Lady was brought to LCAL from Animal Friends of the Valleys shelter. The shelter said she was best friends with everyone as soon as she arrived there. AFV shelter reported that Lady behaved wonderfully with children and other dogs her size. She hasn’t had enough interaction with smaller or larger dogs to know how she reacts to them. As our staff spends more time with Lady, we will update her profile.
On her first walk at LCAL, Lady didn’t pull on leash and stayed at her walker’s side. She didn’t bark at other dogs or react even if they were barking at her. Lady wanted to make friends with everyone she encountered.
This beautiful, sweet dog will bring such much love and joy to a new home.

Jerry is a stunning two year old black Malamute mix with the most amazing blue eyes and beautiful white markings. When you see Jerry, it will be love at first sight and even more love when you see how sweet he is. Jerry came to LCAL from Rancho Cucamonga, where he was picked up as a stray. When he showed signs of kennel stress in the large shelter, LCAL stepped in to bring him to our adoption center.
His initial assessment at the previous shelter showed a dog who was very calm and peaceful in the presence of humans. He was social and accepting of handling, including his muzzle, face, ears, body and feet. He also did well on his assessment regarding food and toy possession.
When interacting with other large dogs, Jerry seems calm and playful. He displayed some extra energy and feistiness with smaller dogs, although he may have just been excited to meet a new little guy. As he spends more time with us, we will learn more about his behaviors with humans and other animals.
Jerry will need some practice on leash walking, but from what we have seen, he only pulls lightly. He is a little nervous at first in a new situation, but warms up quickly and seems to be a people lover. He has been easy to brush, even when his fur was a bit matted. Jerry gets jumping and looks very interested in chasing birds, so he may need some training to keep his prey drive in check.
Once in a stable environment, this beautiful love will bring so much love to your home.

Sweet Jenny with her piercing blue eyes! She is a gentle girl who loves scratches and attention from others. She is best described as respectfully curious. She is often seen walking around checking things out and will walk up to all people to say hello. She causes no trouble in her curiosity but wants to know all people, dogs, and people in her world.
Jenny is a smart girl who is treat motivated, which should make it easy to teach her anything. She is good on a leash and looks to her person for direction while she walks. She is crate trained and house trained. She does well with other dogs and is currently enjoying play time with her foster fur sibling. As she gets more and more comfortable, we are seeing that she has energy and would enjoy regular outdoor play time. She currently likes to run circles around the house and yard with her foster fur sibling. She has been known to run so fast that some in her foster home say she runs “cheetah fast.” She does great with kids and is currently in a foster home with young kids. She is so gentle in her approach with everyone that she would do really well in a home with kids of all ages.
We are sure it will take no time at all for this beautiful girl to find her forever home!

Lucy is described by her foster as a sweet, affectionate, mellow dog. She is a Mastiff about 20 weeks old who already weighs 46 lbs. We expect she will be a big girl! She was originally at Animal Friends of the Valley when LCAL was called to help with her medical needs. She has a significant cherry eye on the right which is a prolapse of the nictitans gland (gland of the third eyelid). She has been seen by an eye surgeon and is scheduled for surgery in early March.
Lucy has shown us that she is a smart, quick learner who is easy to train. She is treat motivated and picks up on commands quickly. Any time she begins to engage in any unwanted behavior, she quickly responds to a redirect and treat. She has been seen picking or biting at carpet a few times, but quickly responds to a redirect to a more preferred chew toy. She is crate trained and potty trained as well as sleeps through the night.
Lucy will make someone a happy dog owner with her sweet, affectionate personality!

Jesse is such a happy and goofy guy. Jesse has the perfect amount of energy, not too much and not too little. He is quick to greet anyone that comes in the room and is quickly becoming a favorite at LCAL. He will walk up to you and literally fall into your lap for some good belly scratches. He loves toys but is also content with cuddles and pets. He enjoys attention just as much as he enjoys giving it. Jesse has been introduced to other dogs and has done well. He has a tendency to pull on the leash and will need some leash training. He knows some basic commands.
